  68. <h4 class="subsection">6.60.29 SH Built-in Functions</h4>
  69. <p>The following built-in functions are supported on the SH1, SH2, SH3 and SH4
  70. families of processors:
  71. </p>
  72. <dl>
  73. <dt><a name="index-_005f_005fbuiltin_005fset_005fthread_005fpointer"></a>Built-in Function: <em>void</em> <strong>__builtin_set_thread_pointer</strong> <em>(void *<var>ptr</var>)</em></dt>
  74. <dd><p>Sets the &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo; register to the specified value <var>ptr</var>. This is usually
  75. used by system code that manages threads and execution contexts. The compiler
  76. normally does not generate code that modifies the contents of &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo; and
  77. thus the value is preserved across function calls. Changing the &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo;
  78. value in user code must be done with caution, since the compiler might use
  79. &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo; in order to access thread local variables.
  80. </p>
  81. </dd></dl>
  82. <dl>
  83. <dt><a name="index-_005f_005fbuiltin_005fthread_005fpointer"></a>Built-in Function: <em>void *</em> <strong>__builtin_thread_pointer</strong> <em>(void)</em></dt>
  84. <dd><p>Returns the value that is currently set in the &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo; register.
  85. Memory loads and stores that use the thread pointer as a base address are
  86. turned into &lsquo;<samp>GBR</samp>&rsquo; based displacement loads and stores, if possible.
  87. For example:
  88. </p><div class="smallexample">
  89. <pre class="smallexample">struct my_tcb

  95. // Generate &lsquo;<samp>mov.l @(8,gbr),r0</samp>&rsquo; instruction
  96. return ((my_tcb*)__builtin_thread_pointer ())-&gt;c;
  97. }
  98. </pre></div>
  99. </dd></dl>
