  68. <h3 class="section">7.9 Support for torture testing using multiple options</h3>
  69. <p>Throughout the compiler testsuite there are several directories whose
  70. tests are run multiple times, each with a different set of options.
  71. These are known as torture tests.
  72. <samp>lib/torture-options.exp</samp> defines procedures to
  73. set up these lists:
  74. </p>
  75. <dl compact="compact">
  76. <dt><code>torture-init</code></dt>
  77. <dd><p>Initialize use of torture lists.
  78. </p></dd>
  79. <dt><code>set-torture-options</code></dt>
  80. <dd><p>Set lists of torture options to use for tests with and without loops.
  81. Optionally combine a set of torture options with a set of other
  82. options, as is done with Objective-C runtime options.
  83. </p></dd>
  84. <dt><code>torture-finish</code></dt>
  85. <dd><p>Finalize use of torture lists.
  86. </p></dd>
  87. </dl>
  88. <p>The <samp>.exp</samp> file for a set of tests that use torture options must
  89. include calls to these three procedures if:
  90. </p>
  91. <ul>
  92. <li> It calls <code>gcc-dg-runtest</code> and overrides <var>DG_TORTURE_OPTIONS</var>.
  93. </li><li> It calls <var>${tool}</var><code>-torture</code> or
  94. <var>${tool}</var><code>-torture-execute</code>, where <var>tool</var> is <code>c</code>,
  95. <code>fortran</code>, or <code>objc</code>.
  96. </li><li> It calls <code>dg-pch</code>.
  97. </li></ul>
  98. <p>It is not necessary for a <samp>.exp</samp> file that calls <code>gcc-dg-runtest</code>
  99. to call the torture procedures if the tests should use the list in
  100. <var>DG_TORTURE_OPTIONS</var> defined in <samp>gcc-dg.exp</samp>.
  101. </p>
  102. <p>Most uses of torture options can override the default lists by defining
  103. <var>TORTURE_OPTIONS</var> or add to the default list by defining
  104. <var>ADDITIONAL_TORTURE_OPTIONS</var>. Define these in a <samp>.dejagnurc</samp>
  105. file or add them to the <samp>site.exp</samp> file; for example
  106. </p>
  107. <div class="smallexample">
  108. <pre class="smallexample">set ADDITIONAL_TORTURE_OPTIONS [list \
  109. { -O2 -ftree-loop-linear } \
  110. { -O2 -fpeel-loops } ]
  111. </pre></div>
