  67. <p>A <em>lazy string</em> is a string whose contents is not retrieved or
  68. encoded until it is needed.
  69. </p>
  70. <p>A <code>&lt;gdb:lazy-string&gt;</code> is represented in <small>GDB</small> as an
  71. <code>address</code> that points to a region of memory, an <code>encoding</code>
  72. that will be used to encode that region of memory, and a <code>length</code>
  73. to delimit the region of memory that represents the string. The
  74. difference between a <code>&lt;gdb:lazy-string&gt;</code> and a string wrapped within
  75. a <code>&lt;gdb:value&gt;</code> is that a <code>&lt;gdb:lazy-string&gt;</code> will be treated
  76. differently by <small>GDB</small> when printing. A <code>&lt;gdb:lazy-string&gt;</code> is
  77. retrieved and encoded during printing, while a <code>&lt;gdb:value&gt;</code>
  78. wrapping a string is immediately retrieved and encoded on creation.
