  57. <p><strong>Synopsis</strong>

  59. <pre class="example">#include &lt;stdlib.h&gt;
  60. void *calloc(size_t <var>n</var>, size_t <var>s</var>);
  61. void *_calloc_r(void *<var>reent</var>, size_t <var>n</var>, size_t <var>s</var>);
  62. </pre></div>
  63. <p><strong>Description</strong><br>
  64. Use <code>calloc</code> to request a block of memory sufficient to hold an
  65. array of <var>n</var> elements, each of which has size <var>s</var>.
  66. </p>
  67. <p>The memory allocated by <code>calloc</code> comes out of the same memory pool
  68. used by <code>malloc</code>, but the memory block is initialized to all zero
  69. bytes. (To avoid the overhead of initializing the space, use
  70. <code>malloc</code> instead.)
  71. </p>
  72. <p>The alternate function <code>_calloc_r</code> is reentrant.
  73. The extra argument <var>reent</var> is a pointer to a reentrancy structure.
  74. </p>
  75. <br>
  76. <p><strong>Returns</strong><br>
  77. If successful, a pointer to the newly allocated space.
  78. </p>
  79. <p>If unsuccessful, <code>NULL</code>.
  80. </p>
  81. <br>
  82. <p><strong>Portability</strong><br>
  83. <code>calloc</code> is ANSI.
  84. </p>
  85. <p>Supporting OS subroutines required: <code>close</code>, <code>fstat</code>, <code>isatty</code>,
  86. <code>lseek</code>, <code>read</code>, <code>sbrk</code>, <code>write</code>.
  87. </p>
