64.
9.1 Printing Source Lines

 65.
 66.
 67.
To print lines from a source file, use the
list
command
 68. (abbreviated
l
). By default, ten lines are printed.
 69. There are several ways to specify what part of the file you want to
 70. print; see Specify Location, for the full list.
 71.

 72.
Here are the forms of the
list
command most commonly used:
 73.

 74.

 75.

list <var>linenum</var>

 76.

Print lines centered around line number <var>linenum</var> in the
 77. current source file.
 78.

 79.

 80.

list <var>function</var>

 81.

Print lines centered around the beginning of function
 82. <var>function</var>.
 83.

 84.

 85.

list

 86.

Print more lines. If the last lines printed were printed with a
 87.
list
command, this prints lines following the last lines
 88. printed; however, if the last line printed was a solitary line printed
 89. as part of displaying a stack frame (see Examining the
 90. Stack), this prints lines centered around that line.
 91.

 92.

 93.

list -

 94.

Print lines just before the lines last printed.
 95.

 96.

 97.
 98.
By default, GDB prints ten source lines with any of these forms of
 99. the
list
command. You can change this using
set listsize
:
 100.

 101.

 102.

 103.

 104.

set listsize <var>count</var>

 105.

set listsize unlimited

 106.

Make the
list
command display <var>count</var> source lines (unless
 107. the
list
argument explicitly specifies some other number).
 108. Setting <var>count</var> to
unlimited
or 0 means there’s no limit.
 109.

 110.
 111.

 112.

show listsize

 113.

Display the number of lines that
list
prints.
 114.

 115.

 116.
Repeating a
list
command with RET discards the argument,
 117. so it is equivalent to typing just
list
. This is more useful
 118. than listing the same lines again. An exception is made for an
 119. argument of ‘<samp>-</samp>’; that argument is preserved in repetition so that
 120. each repetition moves up in the source file.
 121.

 122.
In general, the
list
command expects you to supply zero, one or two
 123. locations. Locations specify source lines; there are several ways
 124. of writing them (see Specify Location), but the effect is always
 125. to specify some source line.
 126.

 127.
Here is a complete description of the possible arguments for
list
:
 128.

 129.

 130.

list <var>location</var>

 131.

Print lines centered around the line specified by <var>location</var>.
 132.

 133.

 134.

list <var>first</var>,<var>last</var>

 135.

Print lines from <var>first</var> to <var>last</var>. Both arguments are
 136. locations. When a
list
command has two locations, and the
 137. source file of the second location is omitted, this refers to
 138. the same source file as the first location.
 139.

 140.

 141.

list ,<var>last</var>

 142.

Print lines ending with <var>last</var>.
 143.

 144.

 145.

list <var>first</var>,

 146.

Print lines starting with <var>first</var>.
 147.

 148.

 149.

list +

 150.

Print lines just after the lines last printed.
 151.

 152.

 153.

list -

 154.

Print lines just before the lines last printed.

 156.

 157.

list

 158.

As described in the preceding table.
